A Golf Milestone Worth Celebrating.

I’ve come to learn that there are some milestones in golf that deserve a little extra recognition.

On Monday, September 14, 2026, Dr. Kenneth McClure reached a remarkable milestone at Viera East Golf Club, and I had the pleasure of meeting both him + his friend, Don.

At 90 years old, Dr. McClure recorded his 400th round of golf at or better than his age, shooting an 88.

For those who may be newer to the game, shooting your age means completing a round with a score equal to or lower than your age. Doing it once is an accomplishment worth celebrating. Doing it 400 times is something entirely different.

Because I’m still fairly new to the golf world, I’ll admit...I didn’t exactly understand what they were telling me.

I asked a few questions, repeated back what I thought I understood, and they kind of laughed at me before saying, “No… not exactly.”

After a couple rounds of that, we finally laughed + said, “How about you just send me exactly what you’re telling me. Email or text which is easier for you?”

Once I understood it, though, I realized just how significant the accomplishment was.

Shooting your age is one of golf’s classic lifetime milestones.

It’s a milestone that speaks to consistency, longevity and, more importantly, a genuine love for the game. Golf is also one of the few sports that can truly stay with you for a lifetime.

One of the things that makes golf so unique is that the game evolves right alongside the golfer.

Distances may change.

Goals may change.

The way someone approaches a round may change.

But the opportunity to get outside, compete with yourself + enjoy the game can remain for decades.

Dr. McClure is a wonderful example of just how lifelong this game can truly be.

At 90 years old + now with 400 rounds at or better than his age, his accomplishment is one worth celebrating throughout the Viera East golf community.
